Finally I've cleared all my CUs with only FYP left on hand now.
Being a girly and vain pot self, I realised that I'll become more disheveled when it comes to photography. And guess what topic am I doing for my FYP?
Documentary on Karang Guni Men "Stacks of Daily Bread"
Please dont feel surprised. I couldnt recall how did this idea came about in the first place too.
Last few weeks during the end-oct and early-nov, I was looking for Karang Guni Men madly and desperately. Idea came about easily but the process of searching for them was horribly laborious, as the natural of the job is to travel around the neighbourhoods and it's tough to have the exact locations of them. While walking around in the neighbourhood ALONE (wishing to have a clone for company), hoping to bump into a traditional Karang Guni man (still using freight bicycle is really rare nowadays) at work isn't a joke at all. Besides that, approaching them is another challenge. It took me a lot of courage to approach a total stranger but has to appear friendly so that they would be willing to let me interview them and get permission to shoot them.
Heart was pounding hard, wondering if he is a decent man for me to follow around, when I finally bumped into one traditional uncle who was working, looking quite fierce. I sat outside the lift lobby 'spying' on him and pondered for bout half and hour, before I decided to try my luck and approached him. The breaking ice moment was really awkward. While I was trying to interview him, passersby kept giving me weird stares which made me felt more uncomfortable in the situation.
Today, I managed to get two karang guni men. One more modern type and the other, the traditional one.

This is the modern one with his wife helping him and travel around with lorry. They're really helpful and kind. The junk collection 'centre' boss address me as their goddaughter. =/ haha.

The traditional uncle. And he's my
WANTED MAN now!
Please contact me if you see him somewhere or anywhere! Cos I've lost track of him as he doesnt have a proper cellphone for me to contact him. I'm damn worried. Pleaseee MUST contact me immediately if you happen to see him anywhere! He's usually his this shirt and a darker grey burms and a pair of slippers. He travel around on a GREEN freight bicycle. Appear in Gelyang, Alijunied and Thomson Rd areas. Been pouring heavily since last Wed. Sigh. It's a bad season to do FYP.
Working as a Karang Guni man is tough. It's unimaginable until you really tried to be one. I've only travelled around with them and I felt tough. Needless to say, them who're travelling around by either lorry or bicycle have to push the trolley with huge stacks of newspapers down the stairs and walking around the neighbourhood looking up to the windows of the flats eying if anyone are willing to sell anything. Sounds aint that tough? But it's a continuous 6 hours job. It's both mentally and physically exhausting, seriously.
I'm so stressed up. Things aint going smoothly. It rains approximately everyday now and then, that affects my shoots as they dont really work during rainy days. Karang Guni uncle gone MIA. Period is coming and I have incoming shoots & wedding shoot on this sunday. Laptop screen's pixels going haywire. Missing and appearing recently. AHhhh... PMS increased my stress level too. Damn.
Cant wait to get over FYP asap and fly to JAPAN for 14 days in March with my lecturer and friends! =D
